The Course

Mirboo North Golf Club has a long history and being situated in the Strezeleckie's is not flat.  The course has been carved out of the local bush and is situated on the north east side of the township.  Originally opened as a nine hole course by a hard working group of locals it was expanded by the volunteers to 18 holes.

Many find a conservative approach pays dividends through the front nine and leave the scoring to the back where there are more safer opportunities.

Front Nine

The front nine holes are tight and bounded by natural bush, intelligent play is necessary to score well on some holes like par 5, 7th and the tough par 4, 8th.   The 1st is an easy introduction with the fairway dropping down to a green bounded by two bunkers.   Its only after their approach shot runs through the back of the green or their first put turns right angles that the unaware realize that all is not as it seems. 1st green

6th tee Standing on the tee of the par 3, 6th you get a wonderful vista over the surrounding hills.  The 146 meters is shortened by the green being significantly lower than the tee.  Don't miss left as the drop down to the 7th tee is daunting.  The shorter hitters aim right and bounce of the slope running down onto the green.  This is a good option in the summer months when the greens firm up or for any one not confident in hitting and stopping the green.

Back Nine

The back nine is more open than the front and winds up to the highest part of the course being the 15th tee.  From here its a gentle down hill to the green and then a huge drop from the 16th tee to the "Plum Pud" green.

The par 4, 12th is interesting as some try to drive as far up the hill as possible so they can see the top of the flag which is perched in a green that has a wicked slope down to the right.

Par 3, 13th Standing on the tee of the par 3, 13th tee, the green seems a million miles away.  The tee shot is guarded on the left by "Jack Gunns bloody tree".  The old gum has a plaque attesting to the fact that it was Jack's regular nemesis, whilst to the right of the green is a lateral water hazard.  Most people are very happy with a par on the 13th.
